PlayStation drops controversial free download you can claim now, no PS Plus needed

PlayStation gamers can currently get their hands on an exclusive free download without the need for PlayStation Plus, however I’m not convinced many people are going to want it.

Sony Interactive Entertainmentpresident and CEO Jim Ryan is stepping down this year, and to commemorate thePlayStationhead honcho you can currently claim a digital bobblehead of the man himself via PlayStation Stars.

Over on the PlayStation Stars subreddit the Ryan bobblehead has not beenparticularly warmly received.

One user wrote: “I’d rather delete my account than have this attached to it.”

For those who may not be aware, Ryan is hardly the most popular man in gaming right now thanks to the recent layoffsacross PlayStation. Over 900 jobs have been impacted, with redundancies being made atGuerilla Games, theHorizon: Forbidden Westdevelopers,Insomniac Gameswho gave us theMarvel’s Spider-Mangames, andNaughty Dog.

PlayStation London, best known for creatingThe Getaway, has also been shut down completely. A picture of Ryan smiling with the London team taken days before the news of the studio’s fate was delivered has been doing the rounds on social media, and has drawnplenty of criticism.

Certainly, a cartoonish bobblehead of the man responsible for making many of these controversial decisions might not be at the top of everyone’s wish-list right about now.

Ryan called the layoffs a “hard decision in a statement. He added the staff impacted are “incredibly talented people”, but “we need to future ready ourselves to set the business up for what lies ahead".
