A rumour is circulating that PlayStation is very close to inking a deal that would bring back a classic hero from the original PlayStation era.
According to, oddly, DJ Akademics,PlayStationis in talks to revive none other than PaRappa the Rapper with Playboy Carti starring as the once mascot.

That’s perhaps one of the weirdest sentences I’ve written of late. As someone who played the demo and then the full game ofPaRappa the Rapperto death, I’d love to see a return of the franchise.

And it would make sense forSonyto tap one of the hottest properties in Hip-Hop to voice the star, but Playboy Carti is a left-field choice when Snoop Dogg is right there.
Anyway,DJ Akademics statedon an Instagram post, “Carti is closing on a multi-year deal with PlayStation to be the new voice of PaRappa the Rapper. Other Opium artists are likely to be involved in the upcoming PS5 game.”
It makes a lot of sense to bring back the series. After all, Hip-Hop is one of the bestselling music genres on the planet, and rhythm games always have a place in the industry.

I’m not getting my hopes up until we hear directly from Sony on this one - it’s hard to see one of rap’s most private rappers suddenly signing with Sony to provide a voice in a mainstream game. However, I’d love to be wrong on this one. After all, I’d be there on day one pressing Kick and Punch with every other 90’s child and teen who loved the Sony pup.
