Digital stores are a fickle thing. Despite being an easily accessible source of content, licensing issues or simply the whim of big companies can cause online stores to shift and change their offering with almost no rhyme or reason.

That’s somethingPlayStationowners are learning the hard way, as an assortment of TV shows and films will soon be inaccessible to users, regardless of whether you’ve paid for it.

“If you purchased this content, you’ll no longer be able to use it”
Now delisting some things from the digital store is one thing, as that’d just mean new users would be unable to purchase it themselves. Unfortunately, this applies to those who’ve outright bought the TV shows, as they’ll no longer be able to watch them despite dropping their hard-earned cash for the privilege.
As you can imagine users were outraged, with many using it as another reason why solely buying digital products rather than physical could get dangerous in the years to come.

One user stated: “That’s why physical media preservation is so important.”
Another proclaimed: “Physical Copy advocators keep winning.”
Finally one considered the legal implications of the disappearing media products, saying “Without a refund, how is that not theft?”
It’s unknown whether Sony will consider refunding people for their purchases once they leave the digital store next year, as nothing was said in the statement announcing their removal.

The list of TV shows being axed will be available via the PlayStation Store until 31 December 2023, after that they’re gone for good.
