PlayStation new console device pricing confirmed, plus more hardware announced

Sony have finally lifted the lid on their new handheld console device, which is officially called PlayStation Portal remote player. The device was teased earlier this year, but it’s only now that we’re getting a name and pricing confirmed.

Take a look at PlayStation Portal in action below.

It’s been confirmed that PlayStation Portal will cost $199.99 / £199.99 / 29,980 YEN / 219.99 EURO, so it’s considerably cheaper than the PS5 console. Then again, as I said, you do need a console to use it so it’s actually a very pricey accessory. The Portal features a 8-inch LCD screen, which is capable of 1080p at 60fps. The device is due to launch later this year, with pre-order details being shared very soon.

Sony also announced the PULSE Elite wireless headset and the PULSE Explore wireless earbuds. PULSE Elite is described as “our new wireless headset that offers lossless audio and comes with a retractable boom mic and AI-enhanced noise rejection capable of filtering background sounds,” while PULSE Explore is Sony’s “first set of wireless earbuds, providing a premium portable audio experience with dual microphones and AI-enhanced noise rejection capable of filtering background sounds.”

They’re the first PlayStation audio devices to use custom-designed planar magnetic drivers. The PULSE Elite will cost $149.99 / £129.99 / 18,980 YEN / 149.99 EURO while the PULSE Explore will cost $199.99 / £199.99 / 29,980 YEN / 219.99 EURO. Pre-order details will also be revealed soon.
