Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfirefirst launched on PlayStation back in 2020. From developers Versus Evil, this RPG sees players assume the role of a ‘Watcher’, someone who is able to look into people’s souls and read their memories. It’s the follow up to 2015’sPillars of Eternitybut developers did note upon release that new players can dive straight into the sequel. Clearly, those who did sample the first instalment will benefit from some familiarity with the characters, gameplay, and story.

Seeing asPillars of Eternity II: Deadfirecentres around seafaring, you can understand why fans ofAssassin’s Creed: Black Flagmay be interested. It’s a much more rudimentary game than the sprawlingBaldur’s Gate 3, but the gameplay ofPillars of Eternity II: Deadfirecertainly harkens back to earlier instalments in the Baldur’s Gate franchise.
According to How Long To Beat, it takes an average of 61 hours to wrap up the game’s main story, with players spending around 95 hours on the main missions and side quests. Squeezing in 61 hours between now and 16 January isn’t impossible, but it is a tall order. That being said, do givePillars of Eternity IIa go if you can.
