PlayStation Plus' August free games have a lot riding on them, I think it’s fair to say.
It’s been a rocky year forPlayStation Plusso far. While there have been some genuinely tremendous new additions to the service,including iconic trilogiesandstunning PS5 exclusives, there have alsobeen some missteps. The good news? It seems things are looking up already, which is a very promising sign for August’sfree games.
In case you missed the news at the end of last month, the free PlayStation Plus Essential games for July areCall Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War,Alan Wake RemasteredandEndling - Extinction is Forever. Not a bad mix at all. We’re also getting a ton of brilliant new games for the Extra tier, includingone of my favourite releases of the last decade.

While it’s worth noting PlayStation Plus doesn’t exactly follow a logical pattern, things are looking bright for August 2023. And if we had to guess based on the pattern of indie, AAA, and curveball? I’d put my money down onOxenfree, Immortals: Fenyx Rising, andLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Check back in a month to see just how hideously wrong I was.
