PS2 emulation on thePlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5has never been exceptionally smooth.
Ever sinceSonyreleased the first PS2 classics for theirPS Plus Premiumsubscribers back in 2022, people online have been constantly picking up on issues emulating certain classics in the PS2 library.

Last June, after months of rumours regarding an update,Eurogamer and Digital Foundry’s Will Juddput the PlayStation 5’s PS2 emulation through its paces once again… and ultimately concluded that the service was still coming up short.

Judd criticised the emulation for a number of issues, including (but not limited to) “PAL/NTSC compatibility problems, flawed scaling options and delivery in a PS4 app container”.
Judd explained that these issues were seemingly as a result of “a distinct lack of care when it comes to emulation” and further explained that “some of the same issues we noted with the PS4 version of the emulator remaining unsolved two years later”.
As Khan noted, several people online have reported that certain PS2 games available through the PS Plus Premium service have suddenly been performing a lot better than they did on release.

What’s most impressive about this is that some of the games people have mentioned have only been on the service for a matter of weeks.
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonusfor instance only went up on the service on the 11th of June, but players are already reporting that the game has received several updates since then and runs much better than it did before.
Considering how expensive the PS Plus Premium tier is, it’s to be expected that Sony are listening to their players' feedback regarding this one.
For the amount you’re expected to shell out on a monthly basis, you at the very least would hope that the games you’re paying for run properly.
