Despite no warning, Sony has announced a newly designed PlayStation 5 just in time for the holiday season. The smaller design is set to “provide greater choice and flexibility”.
We all remember trying to get aPlayStation 5being the equivalent of looking for a needle in a haystack when it first launched in 2020. With stocks low and scalpers being scalpers, it was almost impossible to get your hands on one. Let’s hope that won’t be the case for the newly announced model which comes with 1TB of storage and the option to add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive to the digital unit.

Customers can get their hands on the new PlayStation 5 starting in November in the US and will roll out globally in the months following. Perhaps most interestingly, this new model will become the main PlayStation 5 unit after current console stocks run out. Yes, that means the OG PlayStation 5 will soon become a relic of the past. Already … Can you believe it?
I bet you’re all wondering how much you’re going to have to fork out for this new model but don’t worry, I have you covered. US customers will need to pay 499.99 USD for the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and 449.99 USD for the PS5 digital edition. In comparison, U.K. customers will pay 479.99 GBP or 389.99 GBP.
Sonycame out of nowhere with this announcement but with Christmas fast approaching, it isn’t really that shocking. I’m just praying for the parents out there.
