The upcoming redesigned PlayStation 5 is raising some serious concerns around preservation, seeing as the console needs an internet connection in order to connect the detachable disc drive to the base console.

You might be thinking … Why is this an issue? Well, the server that allows you to connect your digital PS5 and detachable disc drive may not always be supported. It will undoubtedly be supported for many years to come, but eventually we’ll move on to the PS6, PS7 and maybe even the PS8. When the PS5 becomes a ‘retro’ console, who’s to say that Sony will still be supporting the server required to complete this part of the set up?
