Pokémon leak confirms new evolutions for classic ‘Mon

The Pokémon franchise, over the years, has introduced lots of new ways for the creatures to evolve and adapt in battles.

In the generation ofPokémon X and Y,we got the chance to ‘Mega’ evolve certainPokémonto grow them to gargantuan sizes and do increased damage or gain new abilities.

Pokémon and Aardman studios are teaming up for a new animation project

It’s been a while since we’ve seen this ability used in a Pokémon product outside ofPokémon Go, as the feature wasn’t used in the subsequent game,Pokémon Sword and Shield.

This will all change in 2025 as The Pokémon Company confirmed that Mega Evolutions would make a return inPokémon Z-A.

While details on this are slim at the moment, we could be hearing a lot more about it on Pokémon Day, which falls on 27 February.

In fact, 2025 could be the year that Mega Evolutions are embraced across the Pokémon franchise, as it seems this mechanic will be making its way to the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) as well.

There’s no detail on when these new sets will be available, however, they usually debut around six to eight months after the trademark is applied.

It’s also worth noting that these sets are typically timed to release in a two-month window around a new game being released, which seemingly confirms the inclusion of Mega Evolutions inPokémon Z-A.

We will be eagerly awaiting the presentation on Pokémon Day, with the hope that we get new Mega Evolutions of Pokémon who have previously been unable to use the mechanic.

Something we’d consider very likely.
