Unless you’ve been living in a shoebox at the top of a mountain, you’ve probably heard that aRed Dead Redemptionremake or remaster is all but confirmed at this point. After months of leaks,a sneaky updateonRockstar Games' own website seems to suggest that an announcement is imminent.

Obviously fans everywhere are delighted at the notion of being able to replay this masterpiece,especially since you can’t easily play iton PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 these days. Over on the Red Dead Redemption subreddit thousands of fans have said they intend to pre-order the remake as soon as they can - but a few voices of reason have cut through the noise.

This is, of course, in reference tothe horrendous launch of the Grand Theft Auto trilogy remaster, a revolting effort that completely warpedGTA III, GTA San Andreas,andGTA Vice Cityinto broken, ugly messes. Refunds were issued, apologies were made, but the people haven’t forgotten. Well, most people, at least.
It’s worth noting that Rockstar wasn’t directly responsible for remastering the GTA trilogy - that honour went to Grove Street Games. I would be amazed, assuming theRed Dead Redemptionremake is real, that Rockstar wasn’t handling it in-house after that mess. But let’s remain wary all the same.
Another Reddit useradded: “Given Rockstar’s abandonment ofRed Dead Redemption 2almost immediately after release to put all hands on deck for GTA content and its new title, I have serious doubts they wouldn’t just outsource this work.”

We’ll have to wait and see what the game looks like in action via a trailer, naturally, but the general consensus definitely seems to be this: be very careful with your pre-orders this time.
