Resident Evil is one of Capcom’s most popular franchises and every release is a major deal bringing in a bucket load of cash for the Japanese company.
In 2023,Capcomtreated us to theResident Evil 4remake following the success of theResident Evil 2and3remakes from 2019 and 2020, respectively. However, in 2021, we were treated to a new story and the conclusion of the Ethan Winters saga withResident Evil Villageconsidered to beResident Evil 8.

Capcom hasn’t announced whichResident Evilgame will arrive next but speculation has been making the rounds thatResident Evil 9could be next given that the last release was theResident Evil 4remake. However, that might not be the case according to a recent rumour.

Capcom’s next entry in the series could likely be a remake of 2009’sResident Evil 5, as much as fans would love to see a remake ofResident Evil Code: Veronica, a game chronologically set in betweenRE2andRE4.
However, there seems to be some good news despite theResident Evil 9development update that none of us wanted to hear. AestheticGamer claims that they have “seen it suggested” that a different Resident Evil game will be released between now andResident Evil 9, and is considered to be “pretty funny” and would “catch a lot of people off guard.”

If Capcom wanted to catch fans off guard,Resident Evil: The Umbrella ChroniclesandThe Darkside Chroniclesare both light gun games that would be ideally suited for VR. Then we have the multiplayer games,Resident Evil OutbreakandOperation Raccoon City.
Neither of the above four titles I mentioned would be considered funny but it might catch some fans off guard. That being said, I can’t seeResident Evil: Revelations 3being released between now and 2025, but we never know.
There are plenty of spin-off titles that fans would be caught off guard with and would enjoy, but as for being funny, I’m not so sure. Capcom wouldn’t release the Nintendo Game Boy Color spin-offResident Evil Gaidenon main consoles, would it?
Personally, I’d be over the moon with the original Resident Evil trilogy receiving theMetal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1treatment to help tide us over until the next major release. Hopefully, Capcom will reveal all soon.
