Resident Evil fans surprised with new release we’ve been waiting for

Whenever fans can get more Resident Evil lore, it’s always going to be a treat, especially when it comes to cancelled games such as the one dubbed “Resident Evil 2.5”, which of course would later become the 1998 sequel that we know and love today.

WhileResident Evilisn’t the original survival horror game, it certainly helped to put the sub-genre on the map. However, if it wasn’t for the iconic zombie horrormoviedirector, George A. Romero, there may never have been the Resident Evil series to begin with.

It’s a known fact that George A. Romero was going to direct a Resident Evil movie, long before the woeful adaptations from Paul W.S. Anderson and 2021’sResident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Following a 1998 live-actionResident Evil 2trailer, horror legend George A. Romero completed a script for a full Resident Evil movie.

The S.T.A.R.S team had a familiar cast of characters with the likes of Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, Rebecca Chambers and co. However, Chris Redfield wasn’t part of that team but was instead a love interest to Jill Valentine, and a Mohawk ranch owner.

What’s more, Barry Burton wasn’t the cheesy, ginger-bearded one-line machine that we know today. In the movie, he was going to be a childhood friend of Albert Wesker with the “heart of a teddy.”

Sadly, the movie never came to be due to reported creative differences between George A. Romero and executives, and with the director passing away on 16 July 2021, his vision will likely never come to fruition.
