Fans are celebrating the anniversary ofSpider-Man 2 The Game(2004), which many believe had better web-swinging thanMarvel’s Spider-Man.
Not to be confused withInsomniac Games’upcomingMarvel’s Spider-Man 2forPlayStation 5,Spider-Man 2 The Game, released on theoriginal Xbox,PS2and PC in July 2004, and is still widely considered to be one of the best Spider-Man games of all time.
Take a look at the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 trailer below!
Despite its dated graphics and shockingly poor voice performances, it’s a brilliant representation of what Spider-Man games can be, and laid most of the groundwork for future titles, especially open-world ones. Following the events ofSpider-Man 2(2004), the game expands upon the story and introduces a variety of missions and villains not found in the film, like Mysterio, Rhino and evenKraven The Hunterif you played theXboxversion.

Out of everything found within the game though, the part that always gets the most praise is the web-swinging, which was easy to learn but difficult to master. Once you got the hang of it, you could gain some serious momentum, and launch yourself over the New York skyscrapers which was definitely the most fun aspect of the game.
“So many happy memories playing this game. I remember convincing my mom and dad to buy it for me because it had a fully realistic 1:1 recreation of New York City and we had been planning a holiday there at the time, lol.”

“still the best swinging”
While future games brought back the open-world New York, it was arguably more fun to explore with the speed and physics that theSpider-Man 2game boasted.
That being said, the upcomingMarvel’s Spider-Man 2promises some new traversal mechanics for Peter Parker and Miles Morales, like the new web-wings that were showcased in thegameplay trailer, so there’s a good chance normal web-swinging will be refined and improved as well.
