Star Wars: Empire looks like the sequel we’ve waited years for

But today, I want to remind you of the banger that isStar Wars: Empire At War.

Originally launched back in 2006, this Petroglyph Games classic is a real-time strategy game featuring three modes: Campaign, Galactic Conquest, and Skirmish.

Essentially, if you haven’t already guessed from the pretty revealing title, the game sees you engage in a series of both land and space battles - with players able to assume the role of both the Rebel Alliance and the Empire.

The game received an update,Forces of Corruption, several months after launch but it’s hardly gone on to become an enduring franchise.

Many campaigns from that particular period will be included from the Sy Myrthian Insurrection to the Western Reaches Operation, with Operation Skyhook, Strike Fear and Zaarin Insurrection also appearing.

You can choose to play as one of three major factors: the Galactic Empire, Rebel Alliance, and Separatist Holdouts.

And the mod’s creator, moddb user r_forest, goes on to note that a number of small factions are also available. Those include the Hutt Cartels, Hapes Consortium, and Corporate Sector Authority.

While r_forest hasn’t yet set an exact release date, they have confirmed that the first playable version of the mod will include a basic economy, resources, heroes, and units - with additional features landing in future updates.
