The petition, simply called “Renew the Acolyte”, started a couple of days ago and has somehow already received over 17,000 signatures.
Most of the signatures seem to have been generated today however, with over 13,000 people signing the petition in the last 24 hours.

“I want to see original Star Wars material be given the opportunity thrive.” stated Brandy Mebane. “Shows with POC leads are rare and representation in an IP such as Star Wars can positively influence a generation of children.”
Now, whilst their hearts are in the right place, I don’t see this petition succeeding in the long run.

Not to be a downer, but Disney have proven several times before that they’re a profit-orientated company.
I would love to be proven wrong, but personally I’d suggest that the petitioners keep their expectations low on this one.
