It seems that Disney were at some point tempted to add a major plot detail related to who is the father of Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars series.

It’s been suggested that Disney were at some point considering this plot detail or as another Reddit user more accurately puts it, Palpatine was going to use this as a tactic to manipulate Anakin.
Thankfully, Disney resisted the urge to change more Star Wars lore. CRzalez details that Palpatine was to use this manipulative tactic to make Anakin and the Jedi believe that there was never a chosen one. That being said, if Star Wars was to take inspiration from the animated Marvel seriesWhat…If?, it would at least make for an interesting episode.
