Star Wars finally releases official sequel to Return Of The Jedi

A sequel toStar Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedihas finally landed, 40 years after the film’s original release.

And no, I’m not talking aboutThe Force Awakens, although that too is a sequel.

This one is set in the more immediate aftermath of that 1983 film.

You’ll have to venture over to the comic book world though to find out what happened next.

The trilogy is to be told across three limited series -Insurgency Rising, Republic Under Siege,andLast Stand- and 12 issues in total.

Star WarsThe Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising #1will kick things off this week.

The issue comes from writer Alex Segura and artist Leonard Kirk, and is set shortly after the end of the Battle of Endor.

In the issue, Leia visits Anakin’s funeral pyre ahead of departing Endor, taking a quiet moment to hold Darth Vader’s helmet.

Eventually, Leia returns to the rest of the gang where Luke warns Leia against leaning into her darkness.

Elsewhere in the galaxy, in the Anoat Sector, an Imperial Star Destroyer opens fire on a fleet of Rebel Ships.

That pilot is Rynn Zenat who warns them of Grand Moff Adelhard’s continued fight on behalf of the fallen Empire.

The issue is on sale now, withInsurgency Risingset to be told across four issues.

That run will conclude on 6 November, with the first issue inRepublic Under Siegelanding on 20 November.
