BioWare is one of the most beloved RPG studios in the video game industry pumping out iconic classics such asStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republicand the criminally underrated,Jade Empire.
The studio is also responsible for the original two Baldur’s Gate titles, the originalMass Effecttrilogy, and of course theDragon Ageseries. Sadly in recent years, as team members departed,BioWarehas become a shadow of its former self releasing catastrophic flops such asAnthem. What’s more, despite not being a totally bad game in my opinion (after a series of post-launch updates), 2017’sMass Effect: Andromedahad lost much of the series spark garnered during the Commander Shephard era.

BioWare does have a chance of rising from the ashes with the upcomingDragon Age: DreadwolfandMass Effect 5being on the way. Whether the studio can return to its former glory, remains to be seen. However, one developer that has claimed all the glory lately, especially in the RPG genre, is Larian Studios withBaldur’s Gate 3.

Recently,Baldur’s Gate 3not only claimed a well-deservedGame of the Yearat The Game Awards 2023, but it also finished in the top 10 ofGAMINGbible’s greatest video gamesof this year.
In ourreview ofBaldur’s Gate 3, our Ewan Moore said: “I have gleefully joined the ranks ofBaldur’s Gate 3’s evangelical, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. In a year groaning under the weight of so many exemplary games, it is frankly astounding to me how much tallerBaldur’s Gate 3looms over the rest of the pack. I’m not sure we’ll ever see anything quite like it again.”
It’s unclear at this time whether theStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republicremake will ever see the light of day with many believing that the project was always going too big for Aspyr to handle. If the remake were to be rebooted or even with a release of Knights of the Old Republic III, other than the original BioWare developers, perhaps no studio would be better suited to give the Knights of the Old Republic series the respect that it deserves more than Larian Studios, and a former Dragon Age writer agrees.

Responding to a tweet from PC Gamer, David Gaider who not only worked on the first three Dragon Age titles but also the originalStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republicbelieves that Larian Studios would be a perfect fit for the beloved sci-fi RPG property.

“Can you imagineKnights of the Old Republic III, done Larian-style? The idea of my beloved HK-47 being resurrected, mascot-style, to flail his arms and shout “meatbag!” a lot wouldn’t thrill me… but everything else about that idea makes me go,” tweeted Gaider. I’m all for this, especially for the return of the sinister yet charming HK-47 droid.
Will we ever see Larian Studios develop a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game? At this point, it’s probably just wishful thinking. However, if we all become one with the Force, it might happen one day.
