Star Wars named Obi-Wan’s home planet years ago, and it’s ridiculous

In the MarvelStar WarscomicAge of Republic - Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin offhandedly asks Obi-Wan about the planet he grew up on.

“Well I can’t say I really remember” replied Obi-Wan, “I was very young when I left my homeworld.”

Turns out, Obi-Wan probably did remember - but he was likely way too embarrassed to admit to Anakin that he grew up on a planet called “Stewjon”.

Worse still, the story behind why Stewjon is named as such is equally stupid.

In classic George fashion, he offhandedly remarked “uhh… yeah… this is something that was one of the first things I wrote in the very first script…”

After a brief pause, he finally said “He comes from the planet Stewjon.”

It’s not like fans would adopt the name as canon or anything, right? Surely they wouldn’t just roll with that for eternity… right?

Well, as the previously linked Wookiepedia article may have already confirmed, fans are seemingly going along with the joke.

It’s not just fans, though. In issue 4 of the comic seriesStar Wars Adventures, this silly joke officially became canon following the introduction of Tadd Marteens.

As detailed in the issue, Tadd also happens to hail from the planet of Stewjon. Although this doesn’t necessarily confirm that it’s the same planet Obi-Wan hails from, it does confirm that somewhere in a galaxy far, far away, someone decided to name a planet after a well-beloved talk show host.

Never change, George.
