However, many fans have long questioned his real name and it appears as though it is an area of mystery to say the least.

For example, Anakin Skywalker becomes Darth Vader, a name completely different from his own and a way of marking their rebirth.
However, it appears as though Darth Maul is something of an anomaly as it is believed that his real name was in fact Maul.
This was stated in theStar Wars: The Clone Warstelevisionseries and this would mean that Darth Sidious kept Maul’s birth name and just added the titular Darth.
However, one fan does not believe this to be true as the whole point is giving up your previous identity and life when you stray from the light.
