At the time of writing this, the untitledStar Warsmovie is in development and Waititi himself was excited to get on with it when he was asked back in May this year. “I’ve got a really good idea for it,” hesaidbefore the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes kicked off. “It’s just as with all films, it’s this middle part. You’re like, ‘What’s going to happen?’ And then you look at all of those films that are so great, you’re like, ‘Well, I guess they can’t meet some smuggler with an alien sidekick.'”

Now a few months on, Waititi believes some fans may have strong opinions about his movie. “It will be … dramatic pause… a Taika Waititi film,” the director toldVarietyat the premiere of Searchlight’sNext Goal Wins. “It’s gonna piss people off.”
He continued, “You know, I don’t want to mess with something that’s so treasured. Also, you feel like you’ve got to do a lot of research…and I don’t have any time. [Laughs] I mean, there’s thousands of books that have been written, these volumes of books about Star Wars with all those characters. I just don’t have time to get through them.”
The unnamed project is yet to receive a title or a release date. However, with Taika Waititi at the helm, it is sure to be talked about for years to come.
