The studio took to Twitter on September 19 to make the announcement. “Thank you to more than 10 millionStarfieldexplorers for creating the biggest launch in Bethesda history”, itread. However, it is worth remembering it had already beat its current record after 6 million players took to the skies and with not even a month since launch, it shows no signs of slowing down.
Despite its success,Starfieldhas been met with its fair share of criticism. With some players unhappy with the game’s endless loading screens and hilarious bugs, it is perhaps no surprise that 25% of playersdidn’t make it past the tutorial. As a result, it currently sits at a 6.6 user score onMetacriticas opposed to the 84 rating as a result of critic reviews.
However, it can’t be all bad as our very own Kate Harrold awarded the game a 10/10 and praised its compelling story, interesting side missions and unbounded freedom.
“Starfieldis without a doubt a monumental release - and not just because it’s Bethesda’s first new IP in 25 years,”she wrote. “Every now and then, a new game comes along that changes our perception of what the industry is capable of.Starfieldis that game. This is beyond what we’ve come to know an open-world to be. Bethesda has created a universe that, despite its vast scale, maintains interest and an impressive attention to detail throughout.”
