Steam’s new free game is already blowing up, and it looks gorgeous

Steam’s new free game is the Ghost Recon-esque release that we’ve been waiting years for, and it is already blowing up online and looks absolutely gorgeous.

There was once a time when I lovedUbisoft’sGhost Recon series. The blend of strategic gameplay, teamwork, high-octane action and lush visuals was always a winning formula - and fans hope for more of the same very soon with anew game reportedly on the way.

However, when the open-worldTom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlandsarrived in 2017, in my opinion, the series had lost some of its spark. Don’t get me wrong,Wildlandswas still a good game but for whatever reason, it never pulled me in like the other games that came before.

That being said, the less said about 2019’sTom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, the better. Since that time, Ghost Recon fans have been potentially waiting for the series to return to its former glory, a day that may never come.

“The iconic series returns as the definitive free-to-play modern team-based tactical shooter and features three distinct gameplay modes: large-scale PvP warfare, intense extraction shooter action, and a remake of the legendary Black Hawk Down campaign,”readsthe description of the game onSteam.

Delta Forceis currently available to play via its open beta on Steam, and despite only launching today, it’s already proving to be a hit with gamers. At the time of writing, accordingto SteamDB,Delta Forcehas garnered over 68,000 players in its first few hours.

As word begins to spread, I expect concurrent player numbers on Steam to grow quite a lot in the coming days and weeks. However, I could be wrong.

WithDelta Forcebeing a free-to-play game, it does feature microtransactions but the developers have stated that it’s opted against using pay-to-win purchases, instead using a separate currency for cosmetic items. Hopefully, that remains the case going forward.

Delta Forcedoes not have a full release date just yet on PC, and releases on PlayStation and Xbox are also planned.
