Super Mario 64 gets gorgeous Unreal Engine remake you can check out now

I think many of you would agree with me if I said thatSuper Mario 64is one of the greatest video games of all time.

Not only is it heaps of fun,Super Mario64had a major influence on the trajectory and development of 3D platforming games, namely thanks to its dynamic 360-degree controls both in terms of the camera and player movement.

This was a far cry from the side-scrolling platformers that had largely dominated the genre up until that point.

If you were lucky enough to own aNintendo64,Super Mario 64was the game that you wanted to have. Ah, it’s making me warm and nostalgic just thinking back to those earlier days.

As for ‘modern’ iterations,Super Mario 64 DSlanded back in 2004 and the original has been made available on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.

It would be great to see Nintendo carry on this run of delightful remakes but at this point in time, aSuper Mario 64remake has not yet been announced.

Lucky for us though, one dedicated Mario fan has partially recreated the game in Unreal Engine 4 and while you seemingly cannot play this recreation for yourself, it gives us a pretty good idea at what an official Nintendo remake might look like.

The project is the work of CryZENx who recreated the Road to Bowser, Bowser Fight, and Haunted House. Take a look at one such level below.

“God, this man might just be the master of the medium,” one comment read.

“I salute the work you’re doing, recreating all these nostalgic games,” another said. A very commendable project, that’s for certain.
