The Last Of Us season 2 first trailer gives us first look at Abby

Oh the screech I sounded upon seeing this delicious trailer on my timeline this morning.

HBO’sThe Last of Uswill return for its second season in 2025, and the first teaser trailer has finally arrived.

I’ll admit, I’m shocked.

We’re only around seven weeks away from the annual The Last of Us Day on 26 September, so it seemed like a safe bet that we wouldn’t receive an update on the franchise until then.

The trailer may be brief - lasting for around 24 seconds - but it does feature a number of familiar scenes, so let’s break it down.

Warning, spoilersfor The Last of Us Part II lie ahead.

The trailer opens with Bella Ramsey’s Ellie standing at the Jackson dance, before we’re then shown a brief glimpse of what video game fans will know to be the tattoo that covers her bite scar.

It’s Catherine O’Hara’s unnamed character who appears next, in conversation with Pedro Pascal’s Joel.

Interestingly, the conversation mimics the opening scene of the game in which Joel recounts what happened at the Firefly hospital to Tommy.

Presumably, O’Hara’s character replaces Tommy here, but who is she?

You should certainly consider tryingThe Last of Us Part II Remasteredbefore season two lands. Take a look at our review below.

We see a screaming and distressed Ellie. She’s lying down, seemingly with a bandage around her abdomen.

I can’t pinpoint exactly what this is echoing from the main game, but it feels plausible enough to suggest that it could be post the Salt Lake City crew’s attack on her and Joel.

We then see what appears to be a horde of infected approaching the gates of Jackson, as Tommy looks down the scope of his gun, ready to defend.

In the game, during the horde sequence, the horde is never seen to reach Jackson but it makes sense that an adjustment might’ve been made for the TV series to add an extra element of drama.

It’s Isabela Merced who pops up next though. A visibly frightened Dina is seen crouched in the dark holding a lantern. Maybe she’s hiding from the Scars?

Ellie’s then pictured shooting a gun before we move onto a wide shot of a lone horseman or woman traversing the snow.

At the 17 second mark, it’s Isaac’s first appearance - the formidable leader of the WLF. Reprising the role, it’s our first glimpse at Jeffrey Wright’s live action portrayal of the character having originated the role inThe Last of Us Part II.

It’s a brief look, but an iconic moment from the original game is seemingly recreated.

Although with Tommy having already been pictured defending Jackson’s walls from the horde, perhaps that infamous scene will play out slightly differently?

There’s then another shot of two individuals on horseback in the snow. One appears to be Maria but it’s hard to say for certain.

Unfortunately, there’s no update on that release date beyond 2025 but my god, I am foaming at the mouth for more.
