While there’s no shortage of these battles incinema’s greatest trilogy, and to a lesser degree the prequel series The Hobbit, fans have decreed the best of them all comes fromThe Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers, the battle of Helm’s Deep.

This is the final battle of the second film in the trilogy, where the army of Rohan fought the forces of the wizard Saruman. Earlier in the film Saruman is revealed to be a traitor and has a battle with Gandalf, while the two armies clash outside. It’s got everything, atmospheric lighting, sword clashing, a bit of magic and even giant walking trees that emerge from the forest to lend a hand, or branch I suppose.
Many agreed with them, with the poll concluding with 282 votes for the Helm’s Deep showdown though that’s not to say it wasn’t close. Following behind was the battle of Batte of Minas Tirith and Pelennor Fields with 241 votes.

That being said every battle in the franchise has its merits, so we’d encourage a rewatch of all the films to analyse each and every one of them, no other reason…
