It was fantastic to see Keanu back as Neo inThe Matrix Resurrections, but was this to be his last time as Neo?

Last year was whenWarner Bros.revealed that Drew Goddard, best known for directingCabin in the Woodsand for writingThe Martian, would direct the new Matrix film.

Before anyone panics that the atmosphere of the original films will be lost in this reboot, Lana Wachowski will be acting as executive producer.

Considering that Wachowski is the co-creator of The Matrix, it’s a relief to know that she will be involved.

As for who will star in the next film, speculation is rife that Will Smith will play Neo.

On Smith’s Instagram, a post was shared that began “Wake up, Will.”

To some, that may seem like nothing more than the star showing their appreciation of the franchise. However, the post actually details how Smith turned down the chance to play Neo in the original films.

The question asked before “Wake up, Will” wonders what the film would have been like if Smith had said yes to the role.

In previous interviews,as perComicBook Movie, Smith said that he’d have “messed The Matrix up” if he’d taken on the role.

However, does that mean the actor would turn down the role in a reboot?

Some fans believe the actor is now “too old” to play Neo, and have said as much on the Instagram post in question.

Yet, we know few details about the next Matrix film to properly make that call.

Even if this isn’t a hint at a casting announcement to come, it makes for some interesting Matrix trivia.
