I can’t believe I’m about to say this but it’s been 22 years since Remedy Entertainment first releasedMax Payne.
If you haven’t yet dived into this classic title, you should. Centred around NYPD detective Max Payne, the titular sleuth must solve the murder of his family all whilst investigating a drug trafficking ring. It went on to spawn a number of sequels includingMax Payne 2: The Fall of Max PayneandMax Payne 3. It’s no secret that fans want to see the series on modern consoles. In fact, one fan even took to creatinga mock new-gen version ofMax Payne 2themselves. Well, remakes of the first two gamesare actually in development at Remedy Entertainment- although they’re still in the early stages of production. In the meantime though, fans have been discussing the fact that the original game still holds up very well.
Take a look at the originalMax Paynein action below.
Reddit user Rodeo4613 kicked off the conversation, writing, “22 years later [and]Max Payne 1is still one of my favourite games of all time, and I really recommend you to try it if you haven’t had the chance.” Plenty of fellow fans agreed.
User eldiskwrote, “God, I’ll never forget playing this game, I can’t agree more OP,” while Sol1dshotadded, “‘They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark on everything that had led to this point. I released my finger from the trigger, and it was over.’ Still get goosebumps after all these years when I hear that.” The-copilotcommented, “Same, the writing for this game was unreal. I still think about quotes from these games 20 [plus] years later. ‘There was a bullet shaped hole where the answers should be.’”
