Xbox currently has two systems on the market, the powerhouse Xbox Series X, and the less-powerful but more affordable Xbox Series S. Both consoles share the latest releases, due to a “feature parity” clause, meaning a game can only release on both consoles at the same time. Basically, until Larian Studios can get the game working on the Xbox Series S, it won’t come out for Xbox platforms, regardless of how well it’s performing on the Series X.
This has led to a huge debate as to whether Microsoft should continue the parity clause, or if it should prioritise releases on the more powerful Series X, rather than holding games back for the sake of releasing on both consoles.
Current-gen hardware was supposed to push the next generation of games to levels we’d never seen before, in terms of performance and quality. For the most part, that’s been achieved as there are a number of games, both released and on the horizon, that have taken full advantage of the new technology, likeStarfieldandMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.
That being said, the Xbox Series S seems to be an anchor holding the Xbox brand back, and one that many gamers would happily cut loose given the chance. That being said, there’s a rumour thatanother Xbox console is on the way, a digital version of the Series X that retains the power but gets rid of the disc drive.
