Well, this isn’t what we wanted to hear. It’s been revealed that Microsoft is planning on shutting down the Xbox Console Companion app, therefore removing the only first-party method of importing screenshots from console to PC via Xbox LIVE.
It’s not the firstXboxdecision to prove to be controversial in the last week. Anew homepage user interfacewas finally unveiled, bearing many similarities to the UI you’ll find on the PS5. Upon first glance, the UI may look pretty slick but Xbox users haveslammed it as ‘one big ad’, with many adding that it hadremoved their personalised categoriesin favour of generic ‘most played’ lists. Xbox is back on track when it comes to their impressive upcoming release line-up, but console related issues persist - with the Xbox Console Companion app becoming the next focus of controversy.

In 2019, the Xbox app became the Xbox Console Companion app. In the background, Microsoft began working on an all-new Xbox app (yes, the names make it a tad confusing) and it looks as if the Companion app will shut down very soon to make way for the new Xbox app. The app is set to disappear for good on 28 August.
This may sound like a seamless transition but as TweakTownreports, it’s going to prove to be a major issue for those who download game captures on their PC. The current PC Xbox app doesn’t allow users to download screenshots from Xbox LIVE - something the Companion app does allow. It awaits to be seen if this issue will be rectified.
