Xbox makes major announcement as exclusive set for PS5, Switch

It’s set to be a huge week in the coming days not only for the Xbox brand but also for the video game industry as a whole with the likes of PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch set to land some major exclusives.

In the past, Microsoft has made it no secret that it wants to launch itsXbox Game Passservice on more platforms than justPC, Xbox andmobile devices. Back in 2020,Xboxhead honcho Phil Spencer outlined his desire to bring thesubscription service to PlayStation and Nintendo. A few weeks ago, that would have been unthinkable but when taking into account recent rumours, that scenario is looking to be more likely than ever.

There were rumours thatMicrosoft is set to leave the console marketand focus on video game releases, asSEGAdid in the 2000s. However, other rumours since that time have contradicted reports and it’s suggested that Microsoft will not only continue to produce consoles but it may very well have anew one currently in the works. Those rumours forced Phil Spencer to announce that the future ofXbox will be addressed this Thursday.

It would certainly make sense for Bethesda titles to be amongst the first to become multiformat. After all, Bethesda had been a multiplatform publisher/developer for decades before Microsoft acquired its parent company ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion a few years ago. Another console exclusive that has been mentioned to arrive on rival platforms is not one from Bethesda but is insteadPentimentfrom Obsidian Entertainment, also a Microsoft-owned studio.

Of course, we should take all unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, hopefully, everything will be made clear this coming Thursday when Xbox makes its expected major announcement.
