This caused tongues to start wagging and contemplate whether Microsoft would eventually pull out of the console market and focus on games and the Xbox Game Pass subscription model.

It’s reported that Xbox will become more likeSteamin the future offering a service first and foremost, becoming more open for devs, and bringing prices down.
There will likely still be Xbox hardware created but it will be more niche, like the Steam Deck, and will side-load Steam in order to open the console up to more games.

Perhaps the biggest note from the XboxTwo Discord is that “All Xbox first-party games coming toPlayStation, evenForza,Halo.” Bringing games likeHalo,Gears of War, andForzato PlayStation would be huge for players to branch out, and would create more profit for both companies.
Given that Microsoft started in PC gaming, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if they wanted to pivot towards a more open ecosystem much like we see with PC and its multiple storefronts. However, you’ve still got that handful of salt and you’d best keep hold of it until official news comes out.
