Microsoft could be planning to launch a new version of the Xbox Series X, that’ll remove one of its key features.
Despitelagging behindthePlayStation 5, theXbox Series X/Sconsoles have performed quite well. Both are fine options for current-gen consoles, with the Series X being a powerhouse that can run games at 4K UHD for a slightly higher cost, whereas the Series S is the more affordable option for casual gamers.

Following this, insiders are now claiming that Microsoft is currently working on a new console variant, that’ll combine the Xbox Series X’s power, with the Series S’ lack of a disc drive, presumably making a slightly cheaper console.
This rumour comes from theXboxEra Podcast, where, at the 2:05:27 mark, co-host Nick Baker claims to have heard about the console revision from “a couple of sources”, and that it’ll be a “digital-only Series X, so no disk drive". He went on to say Xbox have plans for “other hardware in 2025” but didn’t go into details.
It’s not out of the question for Xbox to release a digital Series X, after all, it’s the most expensive option out of the two and removing the disc drive would make it slightly more affordable, without sacrificing power and performance.
That being said all of this is unsubstantiated rumour, so until Xbox make an official announcement, take it with a grain of salt.
