The Legend of Zelda has been a beloved series for Nintendo fans since the series' inception all the way back in 1986 on the NES.
The most recent entry in this series isTears of the Kingdom, the follow-up to the critically acclaimedBreath of the Wildfor theNintendo Switch. Recently, Nintendo celebratedmajor success with theSuper Mario Bros. Moviewhich smashed the worldwide box office generating over $1 billion, making it one of the most successful animated movies ever. As such, seeing the success of this movie, The Legend of Zelda fans, including theTears of the Kingdomdirector, wanted a slice of that movie pie and now, that wish is being granted.

Creator of The Legend of Zelda series,Shigeru Miyamoto announcedon Twitter that a movie set in the Kingdom of Hyrule is in the works. “I have been working on the live-action film ofThe Legend of Zeldafor many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega-hit films,” he tweeted. “I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”
At this time, it hasn’t been announced who will play the likes of Link and Princess Zelda. However, despite not knowing who will be cast in the roles, some fans on Reddit arebegging Nintendonot to cast Spider-Man star Tom Holland in the live-action adaptation.
At this time, we do not have a release date for The Legend of Zelda movie, but it’s likely to be at least two or three years away. Let’s just hope that the adaptation does this iconic video game series the justice it deserves.
